The other day I just had to have something better than that cheap (but consistently smooth) Aussie Merlot I've been drinking as "everyday table wine" (although I don't drink every day). So I made a trip to a larger discount Liquor store to see what looked good and familiar in my price range. Not seeign my usual stand-bys in stock, I wandered back and forth between the merlots and cabernets. After studying many labels and turning the bottles around to see which county, which valley the wines were produced in, I decided to take a chance with a blend from Sonoma County, where my favorite wines in the workld come from. The lovely purple and gold label of the "Moon Mountain Vineyard" depicted a sillouette of the Sonoma range with a sliver of new moon rising. The wine is a blend of Cabernet Savignon 77%, Merlot 17% Cabernet Franc 3% adn Petit Verdot 3%. To my delgiht, the wine was rich and full-bodied with complex notes of blackberry and pepper, with a whisper of chocolate silk. I was immediately transported from this warm-cold-warm COLD schitzophrenic March weather and barren environment to the lush hills and valleys of Sonoma and Marin counties, where microclimates rule. Carefully crafted and shipped nearly 3000 miles, this wine fileld a void only a beloved West Coast winery could fill. For a reasonable $14.95, the quality was that of a finer wine. For you in Sonoma County, I would expect an even greater bargain, though I cannot provide you with the stark contrast of a winter in Boston to sweeten the flavor.

Re: Whining for Sonoma County wine...
Sat, March 24, 2007 - 11:53 AMExcellent choice! I think my report about Moon Mountain is below in the topics list here. I've been really impressed with them, too, and their physical layout and production mode as well! See their online site www.moonmountainvineyard.com/ -

Sat, March 31, 2007 - 9:55 AMHmm...sorry about that; it works for me. Maybe another browser (I use Safari and Firefox) would work better for you for this site? Meanwhile, if you haven't seen my comments when I visited them last year, see them here at "Will's Wine Basics 101 experience on February 4"
